Birth Services During a Pandemic

One of the most important things at this time is to ensure that measures are being taken to ensure everyone is safe and comfortable. In light of this, I am not currently providing in-person support.

If you would like to get in touch to discuss virtual support, I would love to hear from you.

If you feel that in-person support is what you need the Doula Association of Ireland is a fantastic resource and I encourage you to take a look through the doulas listed in your area, some of whom may still be providing in-person antenatal support.

What is a Doula
and what does a Doula do?

Doula is an ancient Greek word meaning "servant to woman", but with RosyBirths it means much more. A RosyBirths Doula recognises all types of birth preferences and the variety of feelings women can have in preparation for their upcoming birth. Whilst many women will approach birth with excitement, there are some who approach it with anxiety or even fear. It is important to a RosyBirths Doula to ensure that you are supported in the best way for you, however that looks.

A Birth Doula will be there for you during your pregnancy to assist you, then will attend you during the labour and birth of your baby, helping you to navigate the hospital maternity care system or your homebirth. She will give you some postpartum care to ensure you feel satisfied with the birth and that you are bonding with and feeding your baby happily.

A Postpartum Doula attends you during the precious fierst weeks after the birth of your baby, helping to ensure that the new family is adjusting well and beginning to adapt to this brand new little member. This might include helping the mother to get some rest or a shower, or it might be more hands-on such as assisting with light housework and meal prepping to help make sure that the new family continues to function and create their new routines.
“As a woman I felt empowered by Óisín’s advice and knowledge. Her gentle and considered approach assured me and I felt in safe hands. We would highly recommend Óisín as your birthing and postpartum doula.”

About Me

Óisín Schots MCD
I am a Certified Doula and Childbirth Educator trained with BirthBliss and Madriella. I am a mother to two fantastic kids, living in the south of Co. Kerry, Ireland and found myself on this path shortly after the birth of my second child when I got to experience first-hand the support of a doula and realised how transformative it could be, especially in our busy maternity system.

I love helping mothers and their partners get the best start in their new life, and would love to see every new mum feeling empowered by her birth experience.

Not every woman approaches birth with excitement. I recognise that past experiences and traumas can affect your feelings towards pregnancy and offer a tailored service to help with this type of difficult situation. No woman should have to feel unsupported in how they truly feel.

Here's what I've completed so far on my journey as a Doula:
  • Madriella Certified Birth & Postpartum Doula
  • Madriella Certified Childbirth Educator
  • Madriella Certified Breastfeeding Educator
  • BirthBliss Academy Doula Preparation Course
  • Member of the Doula Association of Ireland
  • Evidence Based Birth® Training - How to Help Families Get Evidence Based Care
  • Garda Vetted
  • Dip. Holistic Massage
  • Dip. Anatomy & Physiology

A Doula is Always Learning

Doula's are never 'fully trained'. The nature of our work means we are in an ever-changing field and we do frequent trainings to improve our services.
